AT&T Disability Plans

On Behalf of | Oct 1, 2014 | Firm News

AT&T and its numerous subsidiaries have a common short-term and long-term disability plan. Depending on your date of hire, you may be eligible for 26 or 52 weeks of short-term disability benefits potentially followed by long-term disability benefits. Under the AT&T plan, unless you receive the full number of weeks of short-term disability benefits, you are not eligible to receive long-term disability benefits.

The AT&T disability plans are administered by Sedgwick Claims Management Services. This, however, is not clear from the written documents you normally receive. The written documents you normally receive appear on the letterhead of the “AT&T Integrated Disability Service Center.”

It appears to us that common practices of the Sedgwick/AT&T Integrated Disability Service Center with reference to persons with chronic, long-term conditions include:

  • Terminating benefits while they are receiving short-term disability benefits but before they have received the full number of weeks of short-term disability benefits and before they become eligible to receive long-term disability benefits
  • Only obtaining minimal medical records which do not fully document the full extent of the employee’s disability

We believe practices such as these are designed to deny individuals benefits to which they are entitled.
